CatfishNumber vs. ThatsThem: Accuracy, Coverage & Pricing Compared (2026)

CatfishNumber and ThatsThem are two number lookup tools that claim to identify number owners and whether they’re legit or not.

I put both reverse number search engines to the test and found that one tool is more precise, efficient, and accessible. These are my findings. 👇

What’s the Difference Between CatfishNumber and ThatsThem

The biggest difference between these two number lookup tools is access. CatfishNumber works globally, whereas ThatsThem is restricted to the US.

💯 The CatfishNumber site can be accessed by people worldwide, and the number lookup function supports over 100 country code searches.

On ThatsThem, you can look up US numbers only (+1 code), and the website access outside of the USA is glitchy.

Neither service requires sign-up, but ThatsThem has the option of making an account in exchange for extra number lookups and faster searching.

Next, CatfishNumber is a paid tool with 2 pricing plans, while ThatsThem is completely free for superficial number reports. We’ll tackle this later!

CatfishNumber vs. ThatsThem: Comparing Features

CatfishNumber has more features than ThatsThem that can identify unknown callers and number data. Let me break it down. 👇

During my research, I noticed that CatfishNumber’s features are used to find callers’ names, telco data, and other available details.

  • Verified First/last name and profile photo
  • Linked dating and social media profiles
  • Precise location
  • Carrier company (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.)
  • Line type (landline, mobile, or VoIP)
  • Reputation Signals and Community Reports (to detect spam, scam, or telemarketers).

Alternatively, ThatsThem has many helpful functions for identifying number owners and finding additional details:

  • Name & Location (crucial ID info)
  • Number details, such as carrier & Line
  • Emails associated with numbers
  • Reconnect with people – link old numbers with new ones
  • Account Creation: Sign up for 20 more lookup credits

On ThatsThem, you can reverse search up to 10 American numbers for free without an account to uncover basic phone details.

Which Has Better Pricing – CatfishNumber or ThatsThem?

ThatsThem is free, hence better if you’re on a budget. But CatfishNumber gives a better deal for the high-quality services it provides.

ThatsThem prides itself on being a 100% free reverse number lookup service, but it actually pushes Spokeo subscriptions to users.

It usually locks important caller details to get people to pay on Spokeo ($0.95 trial or $15-$20 monthly). Not a fan of this practice.

CatfishNumber costs $6.95 for 2 searches or $11.95 for 5 searches. No subscription or account required, and no need to pay more to unlock the full results!

Are CatfishNumber or ThatsThem Results More Recent and Accurate?

While testing the numbers with both tools, I noticed that CatfishNumber would consistently find accurate info and more details.

👉 CatfishNumber exceeded my expectations. The report had the caller’s real name, location, and over 8 linked social media accounts.

The report contained a long history of the number’s activity – a key detail in assessing risk scores that many phone search tools miss.

– CatfishNumber Claims: True ✅

CatfishNumber claimed to be able to ID callers’ names, locations, digital footprint, and telco info. It did just that, and the info was accurate.

👉 The ThatsThem test was infuriating, to say the least. I had to try it multiple times, and with different numbers.

The First Number Report: The first time I tried a number on ThatsThem, I got nothing but the landline data. No name, no location…nothing.

The Second Number: I tried a different phone number. This time, I got the location, carrier, and line. The name and spam risk were nowhere to be seen.

The third (and final try): I was getting tired at this point, but I decided to give ThatsThem one last shot. This time around, I got all the data, but the name.

– ThatsThem Claims: Half-true ⚠️

ThatsThem claims to be able to find names, locations, and number history. It wasn’t until the third try that I got decent results, and even then, there was no name

Where Do CatfishNumber and ThatsThem Fall Short?

Let’s start with ThatsThem. The first two reports included little data – the third one was missing the most important detail: the caller’s name.

Instead of holding up its end of the deal (to deliver plenty of results), ThatsThem told me to find out the real owner on Spokeo…by paying.

For a service that claims to be fully free, I find this to be a little deceptive. The accuracy wasn’t there either, and the info was basic.

❌ That and the fact it works only with USA numbers make ThatsThem inadequate for verifying numbers and their safety.

Then we have CatfishNumber, whose results were spot-on, but they took a few minutes to generate. Also, the country code list could use some work.

– Which is the best reverse number search tool?

CatfishNumber is the winner here; no debate. It has the accuracy, global reach, and features to effectively verify identities anonymously.
